CORDILLERA BLANCA TREK

DAY 1: HUARAZ/VAQUERIA | INC: BL/D

Travelling by bus along the Callejon de Huaylas valley and passing the town of Yungay (which was tragically destroyed in the seventies by a huge avalanche), we will reach Quebrada Llanganuco (12,833ft./3,850m).This is a truly beautiful spot, with Mount Huascaran (at 22,560ft. / 6,768 m. Peru’s highest mountain) and the multiple peaks of Mount Huandoy (21,317ft. / 6395m) towering above the twin lakes of Llanganuco. Then driving across the Portachuelo de Llanganuco pass (15,890ft./4,767 m), we will arrive at the first camp in the Vaqueria valley.

DAY 2: VAQUERIA/ TUCTUPAMPA| INC: B/BL/D.

We begin our trekking heading towards the village of Colcabamba and crossing a small mountain range to enter the Huaripampa valley, which runs between Mount Chacraraju (6112 MASL) and Mount Taulliraju (5830 MASL). We will enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding snowcapped peaks. We finally reach the Morococha lakes where we will set our camp.

DAY 3: TUCTUPAMPA/ ARHUAYCOCHA| INC: B/BL/D.

Today we will ascend to the Punta Unión pass (4750 MASL), close to Mount Taulliraju, which affords fantastic views of the valley below. We will enjoy views of the surrounding mountains, such as Mount Santa Cruz (6259 MASL), Mount Quitaraju (6036 MASL), Mount Pucahirca (6030 MASL) and Mount Artesonraju (6025 MASL). We continue through a steep descent to our campsite at Arhuaycocha (Alpamayo base camp).

DAY 4: ARHUAYCOCHA/ LLAMAC CORRAL | INC: B/BL/D.

Today we start with a hike through the Arhuaycocha valley, to the Santa Cruz River which we will follow as it runs into the Jatuncocha Lake and later into the Ichiccocha Lake. We may take some time for fishing, before we begin our trek to Llamac Corral and our campsite by the Santa Cruz River.

DAY 5: LLAMA CORRAL/CASHAPAMPA/HUARAZ | INC: B/BL

Following the Santa Cruz as it winds its way in lazy curves or tumultuous cascades down the valley, we come across huge boulders that have fallen from the nearby mountains. Finally, we will be arriving in Quebrada de Cashapampa where a bus will be waiting for the journey to Huaraz making an overnight stay there.
